Tora are a 4-piece Indie Electronic band originating from Byron Bay, Australia. The name Tora is derived from the Greek word τώρα meaning now.

Having met in primary school and played in various high school bands together over the years, Jo Loewenthal (Vocal/Guitar), Shaun Johnston (Bass), Jai Piccone (Vocal / Keys) and Thorne Davis (Drums) eventually formed Tora in 2013.

Best known for their songs ‘Too Much’ & ‘Inundated’ Tora make a unique blend of live instruments with quirky electronic production, resulting in a polished authentic sound attracting listeners around the globe.

With a music career inspired by the tragic death of his music mentor / brother in law at age 13, frontman Jo Loewenthal found songwriting as a way process his emotions and overcome the challenges that life bring. Influenced by artists like John Mayer, James Blake, Little Dragon, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Foals, Tora’s sound is broad and eclectic exploring many genres and vibes throughout the catalogue.

Truly independent, and masters of their own creativity, Tora have claimed their place as one of Australia most prolific Indie Electronic bands. In 2024 Tora has begun delivering on their promise of new music with their first official release in over 2 years. The new single ‘Jigglypuff’ is arguably the most upbeat song Tora has released to date, with contrasting grooves, pulsing synths, and catchy intimate vocals that carry the song through many phases, overflowing with hooks and surprises, highs and lows, this song is a fresh and sophisticated new addition to the Tora catalogue.
